چکیده

Consecutive coronal CT scans of the paranasal sinus and radiologic medical records of patients examined at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center from July 1987 through December 1988 were reviewed for the presence of pneumatization of the uncinate process. Patients with previous alteration of the anatomy of the paranasal sinus due to facial trauma, carcinoma of the paranasal sinus , inverted papilloma, or extensive sinus surgery were not included in the study. CT examinations were performed on either aGE 8800 (Milwaukee, WI) or a Philips Tomoscan 60/TX (Shelton , CT) unit. Data were acquired in the coronal plane without the use of IV contrast material. The images were collimated to 5 mm and obtained at 3-mm increments from the glabella to the dorsum sellae. A total of 263 coronal series CT scans were reviewed initially. Sixty-one patients failed to meet the study criteria. The final study group was composed of the remaining 202 patients.

The anatomo-radiological study of unusual extrasinusal pneumatizations: superior and supreme turbinate, crista galli process, uncinate process.

INTRODUCTION One of the aspects that have an influence on rhinosinusal endoscopic surgery is extrasinusal pneumatization, which can also affect less common structures at this level. The pneumatization of the superior and supreme turbinates, uncinate process and crista galli are perfect examples of this situation. The diagnosis is made only through imaging methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS This i...

الگوهای اصلی بیماری التهابی سینونازال و واریاسیون های آناتومیک همراه در 385 مورد جراحی آندوسکوپیک سینوس

Introduction & Objective: Because of widespread use of Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) technique and basic role of coronal CT- Scan in understanding of normal drainage route of Para-nasal sinuses, identifying the major patterns of inflammatory sinonasal disease and accompanied anatomical variations is crucial for appropriate preoperative surgical planning. The purpose of this stu...

Surgical anatomy of the frontal sinus outflow pathway: a cadaveric study

Detailed anatomical knowledge of the variability in the drainage pathway in relation to the frontal sinus is a prerequisite for successful sinus surgery. We studied 32 mid-sagittal cadaveric heads and recorded the following parameters: drainage site of the sinus in relation to the uncinate process, attachment of the uncinate process, pneumatization of the agger nasi, and morphometric measuremen...

Relationship between Anatomical Variations of Sinonasal Area and Maxillary Sinus Pneumatization

Introduction: Maxillary sinuses are among the largest paranasal sinuses with various shapes and volumes. The dimensions and volumes of maxillary sinuses play an important role in the surgical treatment plan. The higher levels of pneumatization of alveolar bone lead to the increase of odontogenic sinusitis which cause problems in dental implantation. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate...

Age Differences of Human Frontal Sinus Measurements using CT Scan

Background and Objectives: The frontal sinus is regarded as one of the human paranasal sinuses located in the frontal bone as a triangular-shaped cavity, which originates as separated space from the anterior ethmoid cells. Computed Tomography (CT) is a completely non-destructive technique that uses a high density of contrast to identify the air inside any bony sinus with soft tissue demarcated ...
